From playing a preview build of the first level - a jungle, home to some lost explorers - the thing that impresses me most about Bricktales is just how much it’s like building things with actual Lego. It sounds stupid to say, but them little bricks are really astonishingly realised. It all looks so much Lego it’s sort of surprising that you can’t reach through the screen and pick it up....

But first, a quick explanation of what themes are. Each Jumpstart pack contains 20 cards based on a specific theme taken from across Magic history. Cats? They’re in. Lightning? Covered. Vampires, wolves. If it’s a thing in Magic’s world it’s probably represented in the form of reprints of old cards as well as a sprinkling of new ones. There are two game modes: a mostly traditional battle royale mode where squads battle it out to be the last alive and a mode called Plunder where you’ll compete in a Cash grab to loot money, kill players to steal it, and complete Contracts during the match....

Coming “soon” to Steam, Monster Harvest was announced during last night’s Future Games Show - a quaint wee farming sim that’ll have you turning carrots into carnivores. Granted, Monster Harvest isn’t the first game to root a monster-catching adventure in pastoral life (what’s up, Ooblets?). But it is perhaps the most direct mash-up, rooting its aesthetics firmly in Stardew’s small-town pixels. Qurios are the leech-butterfly hybrids that you have seen flutter around Malzeno in cutscenes throughout the Sunbreak story. It is something I wish I could play again now with all my heart. The former is a “demonic meat locomotive,” while the latter is supposedly based on “the real Messhof office.” I question this. I’m old enough to find the train level reminiscent of Cowboyana, Messhof’s old, free western. Because it had one minigame that took place on the roof of a train, see. I didn’t say it was a deep connection....
