Cyber Monday SSD deals (UK):

Best SATA SSD deals:

Crucial BX500 deals: A good cheap SSD gets even cheaper. The 240GB model isn’t a bad bet bet if you’re building a PC on a very tight budget, though the bigger savings come with the bigger capacities. Samsung 870 Qvo deals: This excellent SATA SSD is generally pricier than the BX500, but specialises in higher capacities. If you were so inclined, then, you could take advantage of the savings on the 2TB or 4TB models and let it handle all your storage needs by itself. The 8GB model is also on sale, though probably overkill for a gaming PC.

Best NVMe SSD deals:

WD Blue SN570 deals: Pound for pound, the Blue SN570 is the best SSD you can buy right now for a gaming PC. That was true before Black Friday, and now that a choice of capacities are on sale for Black Friday, it’s an even better balance of speed and affordability. WD Blue SN550 deals:

480GB - £35 from Ebuyer (was £51) 1TB - £70 from Ebuyer (was £90)

Even with the newer SN570 kicking around, these savings on the SN550 are very tempting indeed. £69 for 1TB of NVMe storage is a particularly good deal, and the SN550 is fast enough that you won’t feel like you’ve cut corners. Samsung 970 Evo Plus deals: The Samsung 970 Evo Plus is one of the best NVMe SSDs to use the PCIe 3.0 interface; you’d need to cross into more expensive PCIe 4.0 territory to get significantly faster speeds. The savings here on the smaller capacities are pretty minor, but the 1TB and 2TB models both get major discounts. WD Black SN850 deals: If you are interested in a PCIe 4.0 SSD, and have the CPU and motherboard to support it, they don’t come much better than the WD Black SN850. The 500GB gets the much bigger discount of the two on-sale capacities, and will provide enough space for a handful of your favourite games.

Best external SSD deals:

Samsung T5 deals: This isn’t the absolute lowest price that the T5 - Samsung’s dinky yet super-speedy external SSD - has reached in its life. Nonetheless, all three prices have received sizeable discounts that makes them all much more sensible additions to your PC kit. Samsung T7 Touch deals: The price of the fingerprint sensor-equipped T7 Touch continues to slide; for comparison, this time last year, the 2TB model was on sale for £278. Performance more than holds up in 2021, too. Crucial X6 deals: It’s not as fast or as sleek as Samsung’s T series SSDs, but the lower pricing make the Crucial X6 viable option for occasional backups.

Cyber Monday SSD deals (US):

Best SATA SSD deals:

WD Blue 3D NAND deals: A reliable classic for those wanting to keep it cheap and cheerful. The 500GB model, which is 45% off, looks like an especially good pick for budget-minded builders. Crucial MX500 deals: No truly titanic savings here, but then the MX500 was pretty well-priced to begin with, and there’s a variety of capacities to choose from. The 1TB model is no longer on sale, but that might change as we get closer to Black Friday.

Best NVMe SSD deals:

WD Blue SN570 deals: For the best speeds, it’s worth spending a little more on the latest and greatest SN570 than on the SN550 below. WD Blue SN550 deals: Samsung 970 Evo Plus deals: WD Black SN850 deals:

Best external SSD deals:

Samsung T5 deals:

1TB - $120 from Best Buy (was $140) 2TB - $200 from Best Buy (was $250)

Despite previous stock shortages, the small n’ speedy T5 doesn’t seem too hard to get hold of these days. Best Buy has some modest savings on the 1TB and 2tb models, but I think you can afford to wait and see if price drop harder as we get closer to Black Friday itself. Samsung T7 Touch deals:

1TB - $170 from Best Buy (was $190) 2TB - $300 from Best Buy (was $370)

As with Best Buy’s Samsung T5 deals, it woudln’t be surprising to see the T7 Touch get some more aggressive deals further down the line. That said, these aren’t bad prices by any means. Crucial X6 deals: No-nonsense external storage for limited budgets. If you’re going to be using your SSD a lot, it probably is worth paying more for the speed of the Samsung T5, but the X6 will serve you fine for light use.

How to get the best Cyber Monday SSD deal

When buying an SSD at any time of year, the big two qualities to consider are speed and capacity. SSD manufacturers will usually advertise their drives’ best sequential read and write speeds, which can usually be reached in practice, though only rarely as you’ll seldom be accessing data stored in such neat (i.e. sequential) fashion. Random speeds are a much better indication of gaming performance, particulay random read speeds, which dictate how quickly games will load. As for capacity, you should consider 250GB the minimum for an internal SSD: this will be enough for Windows and maybe a few choice games, though you’ll need an additional drive (like a cheap HDD) to store the majority of your files, games and apps. A 500GB will perform a similar role, obviously with more space for your favourite games, but will likely prove too small to use as a solo storage drive. Go for 1TB or higher if you want to avoid using secondary storage altogether. Whether you opt for a cheaper SATA SSD or a nippy NVMe drive, check out our guide on how to install an SSD to ensure you can get it set up quickly and easily. Higher capacities also make more sense for external drives, as these will allow you both store more games and back up as much data as possible.
